In July 2025, the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners appointed me as Interim Sheriff following a competitive selection process. The Commissioners expressed confidence in my ability to lead the Sheriff’s Office through this transition and until voters elect the next sheriff.
I have spent more than 20 years serving Deschutes County, working my way through every rank and a wide range of assignments within the Sheriff’s Office. My leadership is shaped by my service in the United States Marine Corps and a 20-year law enforcement career grounded by integrity, humility, and public service.
In addition to my public service, I spent 15 years in the private sector, including serving as Vice President of a Bend-based, multimillion-dollar manufacturing company. In that role, I was responsible for operations, budgeting, sales, marketing, and long-term planning. That experience strengthens my commitment to responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, operational efficiency, transparency, and long-term organizational stability.
I am committed to providing steady, experienced leadership for Deschutes County and respectfully ask for your support in 2026.
Experience That Matters
For more than two decades, I’ve had the privilege of serving Deschutes County. I started my career on the ground and worked my way through every rank, gaining firsthand experience in the challenges our deputies and staff face every day.
That perspective matters. It shapes how I make decisions that affect public safety, accountability, and the people doing the work. Leadership is strongest when it’s built on real experience and a clear understanding of the mission.
Experience matters because leadership decisions affect real people and real outcomes.
Why experience matters
I didn’t come into this role from the outside. I earned it by serving at every level of the Sheriff’s Office and learning what it takes to keep our community safe, support our deputies, and manage public resources responsibly.
That experience shapes how I lead today, with perspective, accountability, and respect for the people doing the work.

Leading Today as Deschutes County Sheriff
Today, I am honored to serve as Deschutes County Sheriff. I am responsible for leading the agency, supporting the men and women who serve our community, and ensuring public resources are managed responsibly and transparently.
That responsibility is real, and it is happening now. It means making decisions that protect public safety, support our deputies and staff, and maintain the trust of the community we serve.
"Leadership is showing up, listening, and doing the work every day, especially when it matters most."
Leadership Through Integrity
My leadership has been shaped by both military service and law enforcement. Leadership starts with accountability, honesty, doing what’s right, and taking responsibility for decisions, especially when they are difficult.
Integrity, trust, and transparency are not just words to me. They guide how I lead, how I support the people who work alongside me, and how I communicate with the community we serve. Trust is essential, and it is earned through consistent action.
"I believe the best results come from steady leadership, clear priorities, and deep respect for the community we serve."
Family. Community. Service.
Deschutes County has been my home for more than 25 years. My wife, Jaclyn, and I raised our family here, and this community continues to shape who we are.
Family and community are at the heart of my leadership. They influence how I listen, how I make decisions, and how I serve. Public service works best when leaders remain connected to the people and places they are entrusted to protect.
“Outside of work, I value time with my family and being outdoors. Those moments keep me grounded and remind me why steady, responsible leadership matters today and for the future.”
My Focus Moving Forward
My focus as Sheriff is straightforward. It means keeping our community safe, supporting the people who serve it, and ensuring the Sheriff’s Office remains strong, stable, and prepared for the future.
That focus includes continuing to invest in our deputies and staff, making responsible decisions with taxpayer dollars, and maintaining open communication with the community.
Progress comes from steady leadership, thoughtful planning, and a commitment to doing the work the right way every day.

I have lived and worked in Deschutes County for over 35 years, and during that time I have come to understand the kind of character and judgment it takes to truly serve this community. I have known Ty Rupert for more than 25 years, both personally and professionally, and I can say without hesitation that he is one of those rare individuals who consistently approaches situations with a clear mind and strong common sense.
What has always set Ty apart is his ability to remain calm, thoughtful, and grounded—especially under pressure. Those qualities are not common, and they cannot be taught overnight. I remember clearly when Ty finished his training to become a sheriff. He came to my office and spoke about how excited he was to begin that journey and to do his part to help people. That sincerity has stayed with him throughout his career.
I also remember Ty talking about one of his first difficult encounters with an intoxicated individual at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds. Rather than escalating the situation, he took the time to talk the man through his options and de-escalate the encounter through communication and sound judgment. In that moment, it was clear to me that Ty had found a career where his temperament and integrity could truly make the community a better and safer place.
Ty has always been a genuine person—steady, fair, and guided by a desire to do what is right. For these reasons, I fully and confidently support Ty Rupert for Deschutes County Sheriff.
